Job Responsibilities

The Assistant Administrator for Inpatient Neurosciences serves as a key operational leader within the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this position partners closely with physician, nursing, and interdisciplinary leaders to advance operational excellence across the inpatient neuroscience service line.

The Assistant Administrator provides operational leadership for inpatient clinical programs including stroke program, EEG, LTM, the Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), adult neuroscience inpatient units, and other designated hospital-based programs. Working collaboratively with medical directors, nursing leadership, and hospital partners, the individual is responsible for optimizing clinical operations, improving patient access and throughput, enhancing quality and patient safety outcomes, and supporting data-informed decision making.

This leader oversees operational performance through the development and analysis of key performance metrics, identifies opportunities for process improvement, and leads multidisciplinary initiatives that improve efficiency, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. Responsibilities include operational planning, quality and regulatory readiness, program development, performance improvement, resource management, and implementation of strategic priorities aligned with departmental and institutional goals.

The Assistant Administrator serves as a trusted partner to clinical leaders by translating operational data into actionable insights, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and driving initiatives that support excellence in patient care, education, and research within one of the nation’s premier academic neuroscience programs.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, highly analytical, and relationship-oriented healthcare leader with demonstrated success leading complex clinical operations in an academic medical center or similarly complex healthcare environment. Candidates with experience in neuroscience, hospital operations, quality improvement, performance analytics, or other clinically intensive service lines are strongly encouraged to apply. A clinical background is valued but not required.

Qualifications
  • Work requires a professional level of knowledge in finance, accounting, and business administration in order to effectively manage the administrative and clinical activities in the department, as acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in business, Health Science Administration or a related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years administrative/ supervisory experience in health care operations and finance, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Ability to analyze financial data for functional unit and make sound recommendations to Administrator and Functional Unit Director. Ability to manage diverse groups of people and clinical operations to achieve departmental objectives. In addition, analytical ability required to assist in development of objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively communicate on a frequent basis with departmental and inter-departmental administrative staff, employees and physicians to exchange information, resolve problems and coordinate services.

Salary Range: $103,000 - $126,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
