Job summary

Vance Airscoop, a commercial construction subcontracting firm, is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager for our Frederick, MD office. This full-time on-site role offers the potential for partial remote after one year, with a salary range of $80,000 to $95,000 plus an annual bonus.

You will lead accounting tasks, manage GL, AP, payroll reports, and support month-end and year-end close processes. A strong Excel and AI-automation skill set is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; 3–5 years accounting experience or HS Diploma/GED with 12+ years experience.
• Solid understanding of debits/credits, AP and journal entries.
• Experience with Sage 300 CRE or Foundation web-based accounting software; ERP familiarity.
• Exposure to 1–2 financial audits as a contributing team member.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis).
• Experience using AI to automate manual accounting tasks.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Windows.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records, including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations and payroll reports.
• Process and manage accounts payable transactions accurately and on time.
• Prepare and post journal entries in line with accounting principles and internal policies.
• Support monthly and yearly close activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Assist with all audit requests and documentation as needed.
• Assist with filing and maintaining business licenses and vendor accounts.
• Build, maintain, and optimize complex Excel spreadsheets for reconciliations, reporting, and analysis.
• Coordinate with CFO and 3rd party CPA firm for creation of year-end reviewed financial reports.
• Create AI processes to automate manual tasks.

• Experience with Sage 300 CRE or Foundation web-based accounting software is a plus, experience with a similar ERP financial system at a minimum
• Exposure to 1-2 financial audits as a contributing team member
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis)
• Experience using AI to automate manual accounting task
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

• Experience with sales tax, physical inventory, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
