Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and support accounting staff; provide performance feedback.
  • Review staff work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform general ledger reviews, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing; prepare and review entries, accruals, and statements.
  • Manage daily accounting operations: GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, bank reconciliations.
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting for assigned companies; monthly close and reporting.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls; streamline processes and automation where possible.
  • Meet monthly and quarterly/annual reporting deadlines; assist with variance analyses.
  • Participate in major accounting decisions, issue research, and implementations.
  • Take on special projects as directed by senior management.

Since its founding, the company has been widely recognized for its ability to deliver large-scale developments focused on long‑term community and economic value.

With over 35 years of experience, the company maintains comprehensive capabilities—from zoning and entitlement to construction management, leasing, and property management, demonstrating full‑service capabilities across the project lifecycle. The company is entering a new phase of expansion and redevelopment and is seeking to expand its Accounting department.

Position

The (Assistant) Accounting Manager is a hands‑on accounting leader who supports management in overseeing the organization's accounting operations across a portfolio of multiple companies while maintaining direct responsibility for the accounting functions of a designated group of companies. This role combines leadership and mentorship with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities, including month‑end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting support and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate has a minimum of five (5) years of progressive senior accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities, strong technical accounting expertise, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex, multi‑entity environment. Responsibilities
  • Assist management in supervising, training, mentoring, and supporting accounting staff, providing guidance and performance feedback as appropriate.
  • Review staff work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform general ledger reviews, journal entry analysis and approving journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support the month‑end and year‑end closing processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist in managing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage the full‑cycle accounting functions for assigned companies, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, month‑end close, financial reporting, and analysis of financial results.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures while streamlining processes and implementing automation where possible.
  • Meet deadlines for monthly reporting as well as preparation and issuance of quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly variance analyses by collaborating with internal accountants to identify, research, and provide accurate explanations for fluctuations in financial results.
  • Actively participate with major accounting decisions, researching issues and lead implementation.
  • Special projects as directed by senior management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Advanced education in accounting, including Master’s‑level coursework preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of senior progressive accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities in a corporate level position, preferably with a real estate investment and management company and/or a large national/regional accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems and accounting software, including experience managing financial data, performing reconciliations, and generating reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, maintains accuracy under pressure, effectively manages multiple priorities, and consistently meets tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to work on‑site in an office environment. Limited hybrid scheduling may be available.
  • Highly organized, strong interpersonal skills, articulate in written and oral communications.
  • A team player who works well with people at all levels of an organization and can work independently without the need for constant supervision.
