Job description

Within a global, business-aligned team, the Manager will lead a group of negotiators responsible for negotiating a broad range of Master Trading Agreements and related documentation for funds and clients across multiple products. Agreements include (but are not limited to) ISDAs, CSAs, MSFTAs, MCAs, Prime Brokerage Agreements, GMRAs, MRAs, Triparty and Clearing Agreements, as well as ancillary documentation required to support trading relationships.

In addition to people leadership and oversight, the Manager will personally negotiate a portfolio of agreements, typically including higher-risk, higher-complexity matters, while providing strategic direction and coaching to the team.

The Manager will bring deep subject‑matter expertise in trading documentation and a strong awareness of key regulatory requirements impacting these agreements (including FINRA 4210 Uncleared Margin Rules and the SEC Cleared Repo Mandate). This role requires the ability to perform in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment while building strong partnerships internally and with counterparties at other financial institutions. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and stakeholder management skills are essential.

The Manager will also champion the team’s modernization agenda, leveraging AI‑enabled tooling and automation to streamline documentation workflows, enhance risk identification and escalation, and improve stakeholder reporting—while ensuring outcomes remain consistent with internal controls, regulatory expectations, and Legal‑approved standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the team responsible for drafting and negotiating Master Trading Agreements and related documentation across products, clients, and jurisdictions.
  • Negotiate Master Trading Agreements and related ancillary documentation for assigned clients and/or complex, time‑sensitive negotiations working closely with Legal and obtaining Legal approval before execution.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of Master Trading Agreement contractual frameworks, applicable regulations, and derivatives issues; ensure the team’s practices align with regulatory expectations (including FINRA 4210, Uncleared Margin Rules and the SEC Cleared Repo mandate).
  • Provide strategic oversight and escalation support on complex negotiations, including bespoke provisions driven by client entity type, country of incorporation, and business requirements.
  • Drive timely execution, ensuring efficient turnaround without compromising accuracy, risk management, or client experience.
  • Enforce adherence to internal procedures for initiation of agreements, approvals of key terms, and documentation controls; ensure regular, proactive status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with trading desks, client account managers, operations, legal, risk, and other internal partners; represent the team in relevant internal working groups.
  • Oversee and contribute to ad hoc documentation projects, including process improvements, remediation efforts, and regulatory or business‑driven initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and
  • flexibility, ensuring the team can adapt to shifting priorities and business needs.
  • Drive AI adoption and workflow automation across the trading documentation lifecycle (intake, negotiation playbooks, clause selection, issue spotting, approvals routing, status reporting), improving turnaround time, transparency, and control adherence.
Required qualifications, skills and capabilities:
  • 7+ years leading negotiation and execution of Master Trading Agreements and ancillary documentation, with a track record managing complex, high‑impact matters and escalations.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team; sets clear objectives, establishes quality standards, and drives accountability in an inclusive culture.
  • Ability to set negotiation strategy and risk posture in partnership with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Front Office stakeholders; makes sound decisions under ambiguity and time pressure.
  • Deep understanding of key data terms in trading documentation and how those terms translate into downstream use; drives consistent interpretation, governance, and operating practices across internal teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovation opportunities (including AI‑enabled workflows) to improve efficiency, controls, and client/stakeholder experience; comfortable evaluating use cases, partnering with technology and control functions, and driving adoption/change management.
  • Highly effective at influencing across functions and levels, including presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders and facilitating alignment in small and large forums.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; translates technical/legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance and concise executive‑level summaries.
  • Experience establishing scalable processes, playbooks, templates, and training; drives standardization and measurable improvements in quality, cycle time, and risk management.
  • Manages multiple workstreams and competing priorities, delegates effectively, and ensures timely delivery with appropriate oversight and independent ownership.
