Responsibilities

  • Create and implement business plans to maximize property value through operational improvements, capital investments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Track monthly and quarterly financial performance, including budget-to-actual variance analysis, cash flow, and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with property management to achieve performance targets and operational excellence.
  • Maintain asset-level financial models, cash flow projections, and valuations.
  • Support annual budgeting with property management teams.
  • Prepare investment analyses, performance reports, and presentations for senior leadership and investment committee.
  • Monitor performance against underwriting, flag variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct market research on submarket conditions, comparable properties, competitive positioning, and trends.
  • Visit properties for site inspections and on-site initiatives with property management teams.
  • Support reporting to joint venture partners, lenders, and institutional investors.

Position Overview

The Associate, Asset Management will support the financial and operational performance of the real estate portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President of Investments and Asset Management, this role is hands-on and analytical: you will build and maintain financial models, track asset performance against underwriting, and help execute business plans across a mixed-use multifamily and commercial portfolio. This is a strong opportunity for an early career candidate to build a foundation across the full asset lifecycle, learn directly from senior investment professionals, and grow into greater ownership over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating and implementing business plans that enhance property value through operational improvements, capital investments, and strategic initiatives to maximize returns
  • Track monthly and quarterly financial performance across assigned assets, including budget-to-actual variance analysis, cash flow, and key performance metrics
  • Work closely with property management teams to achieve performance targets and ensure operational excellence
  • Maintain and update asset-level financial models, cash flow projections, and valuations
  • Support the annual business planning and budgeting process in coordination with property management teams
  • Prepare investment analyses, performance reports, and presentation materials for senior leadership and investment committee review
  • Monitor asset performance against underwriting and business plan assumptions, flagging variances and helping evaluate corrective actions
  • Conduct market research on submarket conditions, comparable properties, competitive positioning, and emerging trends
  • Visit properties across the portfolio as needed to conduct site inspections, tour comparable properties, and support on-site initiatives alongside property management teams
  • Support reporting to joint venture partners, lenders, and institutional investors, including quarterly reporting packages and ad hoc information requests
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the investments, development, finance, and operations teams
Qualifications
  • 1 - 4 years of experience in real estate asset management, acquisitions, investment management, valuation, or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field required
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ARGUS preferred or a willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with multifamily and/or commercial property-level operations and real estate financial statements
  • Exposure to institutional investors or joint venture reporting a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analysis clearly
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across a portfolio
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, with a desire to take on increasing responsibility
Location

This role requires a minimum of four days per week on site, either in the Washington, DC office or at one of the portfolio properties, with Fridays optionally remote.
