Job summary

R. H. Sheppard Co. is seeking an Assembly Refitter to disassemble and refit assembly parts, maintaining the pace to meet production standards. The role may involve leading or training others and requires working under minimal supervision.

The candidate will diagnose fitting issues, interpret blueprints, and ensure correct parts are installed into power steering units. Responsibilities include tool maintenance, safety adherence, and cross-training to support flexible manufacturing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year in a Production Assembly role preferred.
• Knowledge of shop math and blueprint reading.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in production/manufacturing environment.
• Lean manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, 5S, and JIT.
• Ability to stand, stoop, bend and lift routinely.
• Overtime requirement daily and on weekends.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, troubleshoots, and repairs all rejected steering gear units from the test department.
• Performs basic and complex assemblies to maintain production levels.
• Diagnoses problems when parts do not fit; communicates with supervisors and participates in refit meetings.
• Interprets product structure to ensure correct parts are installed into power steering units.
• Maintains tools and work area; keeps area clean and orderly.
• Performs basic tool and machine maintenance and checks oil levels.
• Provides support in bottleneck areas to keep assembly flow moving.
• Follows safety procedures and 5S standards during all duties.
• Selects components per blueprints/instructions and inspects parts for damage.
• Ensures tolerances using gauges, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
• Operates CNC, thrust washer machines, drills, and PRV setting machines.
• Assembles components according to plans, maintaining quality standards.
• Coordinates parts using an assembly schedule.
• Visually inspects assemblies and informs supervisor of issues.
• Trains lower-level assembly staff as needed.
• Cross-training and flexibility in duties.
