Job summary

Jobtailor in Iowa is seeking an experienced mechanical assembler for wind turbine components. You will use hand tools, power tools and overhead cranes to assemble, torque, align and fit gearboxes, bearings, and shafts.

You will read engineering drawings, follow instructions, and work in a safety-conscious, team-oriented environment with opportunities for improvement and growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical certifications or technical training.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly or heavy manufacturing.
  • Ability to read work instructions.
  • Experience in wind turbine, automotive, or industrial equipment assembly.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read mechanical blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Experience with overhead crane operation and crane certification.
  • Must be able to pass a respiratory fit test as required.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • ISO 9000:2000 Quality System is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical components of wind turbines using hand tools, power tools, and overhead cranes.
  • Follow detailed work instructions and engineering drawings to ensure accurate builds.
  • Perform torquing, alignment, and fit-up of gearboxes, bearings, shafts, and other large components.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Complete assigned production tasks within designated timeframes and production benchmarks.
  • Lift, position, and remove materials from the work area as needed.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to improve assembly processes.
  • Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support other production areas as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot potential production problems in coordination with PQA and Engineering.
  • Assist electrical assembly operators as required.
  • Promote compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
