Job summary

Novanta is seeking an assembler/technician in Bedford, MA to support precision mechanical assembly for high‑reliability products. You will read schematics, assemble using hand tools, and solder cables while maintaining strict quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Ability to multitask and willingness to learn different assembly requirements.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma environments.
  • Familiarity with QMS standards such as ISO 9001; strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of ESD and 5S principles; safety and chemical awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and adhere to work instructions, BOMs, and assembly drawings.
  • Use hand tools safely and properly.
  • Mechanically assemble product within quality/output targets.
  • Solder cables, wires and through-hole devices within quality limits.
  • Inspect products and identify non-conformances.
  • Operate pass/fail test equipment (ALTF, PD Test).
  • Identify root causes with Team Lead and assist process improvements.
  • Cross-train other employees and support 5S and cycle counts.

Summary

The ideal candidate will be a confident and highly organized self-starter with some applications knowledge, communication and technical problem-solving skills to ensure execution of our quality standards and customer on time delivery metrics.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Able to read, understand, and adhere to work instructions, BOMs, and assembly drawings
  • Usage of hand tools properly and safely
  • Mechanical assembly of product within acceptable quality and output levels
  • Soldering of cables, wires and through hole devices within acceptable quality limits
  • Inspect product and properly identify non-conformances
  • Properly operate pass/fail test equipment (ALTF, PD Test, etc.)
  • By working with the Team Lead your able to identify potential root causes for issues identified in the assembly process
  • Cross train other employees
  • Able to suggest and help implement process improvement activities
  • Helps lead 5S initiatives and daily cycle counts
  • Understand and interpret test results/plots, and basic failure modes
  • Can perform rework when required
  • Cleanliness and workstation clean up through 5S standards
Preferred
  • IPC solder requirements verified (Consistently meet IPC requirements; tested per IPC610 requirements)
  • IPC Solder certified (designated sections of J-STD 001)
General Tasks
  • Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
  • Ability to multitask and willingness to learn different assembly requirements
  • Previous experience with opto-electronics and PCB commodities,
  • Working experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma environments
  • Familiar and knowledgeable with QMS standards (ie: ISO 9001)
  • Team player with strong computer, written, verbal and skills
  • Basic knowledge and practice of ESD and 5S principles
  • Safety and chemical awareness

  • Lifting to 50 pounds,
  • Standing long periods of time

The salary for this role will range from $22 to $26 per hour based on full-time employment. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to location, relevant skills, training, experience, education, etc.
