Job summary

IFG Companies seeks an Underwriter Trainee to join a structured program building competency in commercial insurance underwriting and broker relationships. You will progress through a formal curriculum with real-world applications across GL, Excess and Inland Marine while gaining exposure to wholesale brokers.

Recent graduates or early‑career professionals will develop skills in pricing, risk assessment and production support, with hybrid work expectations and robust benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in insurance, risk management, economics, actuarial science, or related fields.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot) and the ability to learn other business apps.
• Industry-related summer internship or work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete structured underwriting curriculum covering GL, Excess and IM.
• Attend training sessions and complete progressively challenging assignments.
• Coordinate with mentors for on-the-job exposure in account management, submission review and risk assessment.
• Develop knowledge in underwriting principles, risk assessment, pricing and broker relationships.
• Assist underwriters in creating solutions for small and middle market clients.
• Participate in coaching and mentor check-ins to prepare for full underwriting role.
• Perform other duties as requested.
