Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO, is seeking an Assistant Telecommunications Engineer to support diverse utility projects (SCADA, distribution automation, cyber security, microwave, wireless, fiber, smart grid). You will help design networks and prepare project deliverables under supervision.

You will assist with BOMs, drawings, channel plans and cutover plans, ensuring timely project completion and adherence to QA/QC guidelines. Open to new grads willing to develop skills in a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing telecommunications networks using client standards or developing new standards.
• Assist with project deliverables such as: bill of materials, specifications, yard layouts, equipment plans, sections and details, wiring diagrams, control building arrangements, DC calculations, cable lists, SCADA points lists, device configuration files, network architecture diagrams, channel plans, RF path studies, and cutover plans.
• Assist in execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools to develop new or improved processes, equipment and/or methods.
• Identify, communicate and assist in resolving issues on projects as needed.
• Adhere to established project schedule to meet deadlines.
• Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are provided to client satisfaction and that projects follow internal QA/QC guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
