Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in supervising staff, managing inventory, stocking, and paperwork. The role supports external candidates for a limited period, with emphasis on customer service and cash handling.

The position requires strong reading, math, and merchandising knowledge, plus the ability to recruit, train and lead teams in a fast-paced retail environment. Travel and weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret documents including diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
• Perform basic math calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide/percent).
• Know cash handling procedures with cashier accountability and deposits.
• Learn and operate IBM cash register functions to generate reports.
• Understand inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Know cash, safety and facility control policies (deposits, keys, SAFE/STARS).
• Know recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices including compliance.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Demonstrate interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Able to solve problems in varied situations with limited standardization.
• Locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with merchandising, stocking, signing and pricing per store direction.
• Help manage inventory, damages, markdowns, and paperwork.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide senior-level customer service leadership.
• Model company procedures and policies from the handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure cash control and safe deposit of company funds.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment for customers and staff.
• Operate store in the manager's absence and review operating statements for trends.
