Job summary

KLA Industries in Richmond, VA is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our heavy civil / highway team. You will work with a Senior PM on active projects, handling submittals, RFIs, procurement, and cost tracking from day one.

The role offers real responsibility, opportunities to interface with owners and inspectors, and a path to running your own projects. Requirements include 2–5 years in relevant projects and a civil engineering or construction management degree.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years on heavy civil, highway, or utility projects.
• Experience with scheduling and cost tracking.
• Field-to-project management exposure.

Responsibilities

• Drive submittals, RFIs, and procurement schedules so field crews stay ahead of the work
• Coordinate subcontractors and supplier purchase orders to protect schedule commitments
• Track quantities, production, and costs against budget — and flag variances early
• Support monthly payment requisitions, cost projections, and project documentation
• Sit in weekly project team meetings covering schedule and cost review — and learn how profitable projects are actually run
• Support a safety culture that’s instilled at every level of the project
