Job summary

KIPP Chicago is seeking a Principal in Residence (PIR), a two-year residency that prepares aspiring leaders to become a school principal. PIRs join a leadership team, coach teachers, and receive mentorship to build the skills and dispositions of effective school leaders.

As a PIR, you will participate in ongoing professional development, work closely with a mentor, and advance through readiness checkpoints toward independent school leadership in one of Chicago’s KIPP campuses.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois Teaching License (PEL) or equivalent out of state license is required/preferred.
• Combination of five years of teaching and school-level instructional experience.

Responsibilities

• Model and support implementation of the school’s vision and goals; own the implementation of select school priorities.
• Lead planning and goal setting for grades/departments; ensure alignment with school-wide goals.
• Develop teachers and emerging leaders with coaching and feedback; support data-driven instruction.
• Model strong staff and student culture; manage school operations and student behavior systems.
• Collaborate with School Leader to hire and retain diverse, high-impact staff.
• Develop and coach teachers through data-driven instruction and feedback.
• Engage in leadership development aligned to Chicago’s competencies.
