Job summary

Branscome Inc. in Richmond, VA, is seeking a Roller Operator to operate a self-propelled roller on paving projects, with steel drums or solid rubber wheels, to compact hot mix asphalt and meet project specs.

You will perform daily equipment checks, maintain safety standards, drive to job sites, and support the paving crew. A High School Diploma is preferred and prior heavy highway construction experience is valued. Overtime is required and a valid driver’s license is needed.

• Use hand tools as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Major Role and Purpose

• Operate a self-propelled Roller with either steel drums or solid rubber wheels used for compacting hot mix asphalt.

Description of Duties

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, local, state and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
• Rides on platform of machine and moves lever, pedals, or throttles to control and guide machine.
• Must be able to perform daily checks on equipment (i.e., hydraulic fluid level, greasing, oil levels).
• Use hand tools such as hand shovel, wrench, and screwdriver.
• Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma preferred.

Work Experience

• Previous heavy highway construction experience preferred.
• Knowledge of compacting procedures dealing with different asphalt mixes.

Physical Demands

• Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching and squatting.
• Walking or standing may occupy the entire day.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
• Overtime work is required.
• Valid Driver's License with transportation to and from job sites.
