Job summary

RADISEInternational, LC is seeking an Asphalt Plant Inspector in Fort Lauderdale to oversee asphalt production, perform QC/QA tests, and ensure compliance with FDOT specifications. The role involves on-site inspections, collaboration with plant operators and project staff, and documenting results.

The position requires CTQP Asphalt Plant Level II or the ability to obtain certification, with flexibility for non-typical hours including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Job Summary

The Asphalt Plant Inspector is responsible for overseeingand documenting asphalt production to ensure compliance with FDOTspecifications and project requirements. This position involves on-siteinspections at asphalt plants, conducting standardized material tests,verifying mix designs, and coordinating with plant operators and projectpersonnel to ensure high-quality pavement materials.

The Asphalt Plant Inspector is responsible for servicing theprojects during non-typical working hours, nights and weekends. The positionrequires a CTQP Asphalt Plant Level II Certification, or the ability to obtainthe Certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspectand monitor asphalt plant operations to ensure full compliance with FloridaDepartment of Transportation (FDOT) standards, specifications, andprocedures.
• PerformQuality Control and Quality Assurance (QC/QA) tests as required under FDOTguidelines, including verification of mix designs and materials.
• Collectand test asphalt materials using standardized procedures (e.g., AASHTO,ASTM).
• Verifycalibration of plant equipment and the use of approved materials andsources (e.g., bitumen, aggregates).
• Ensurecompliance with FDOT Sampling, Testing, and Reporting requirements (e.g.,LIMS reporting, Daily Reports of Inspection).
• Documentinspection results, test data, and deviations from project specifications,maintaining accurate FDOT records.
• Coordinatewith FDOT personnel, contractors, and engineers to resolve issues relatedto mix quality, production scheduling, and test results.
• Conductrandom sampling and field testing in accordance with FDOT’s MaterialsAcceptance and Certification process.
• Monitorenvironmental and safety compliance, including adherence to FDOT’senvironmental and safety protocols.
• Maintainfamiliarity with current FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and BridgeConstruction.
• Highschool diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree in civilengineering technology or related field preferred.
• Minimumof 3 years of experience in asphalt inspection, construction materialstesting, or related field. Minimum of 2–3 years of experience workingon FDOT roadway or plant projects (preferred).
• Workingknowledge of FDOT Mix Design Verification, QC Plan Review, and MaterialSampling and Testing Protocols.
• Familiaritywith industry standards (AASHTO, ASTM, DOT specifications).
• Currentor past FDOT certifications highly preferred (e.g., ACI, CTQPAsphalt Plant Level I & II, QC Manager, or EarthworkConstruction Inspection Level I).
• Proficientin MS Office
• Proficiencyin using FDOT’s MAC, LIMS, and SiteManager systems is a strong plus.
• Strongattention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpretconstruction plans and FDOT specifications.
• Proficientin recordkeeping and reporting software (e.g., Excel, constructionmanagement/FDOT recordkeeping software).
• Abilityto work independently and in varying weather conditions.
• Validdriver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
• Mustbe able to work flexible hours and travel to various plant sites acrossFlorida.

Physical Requirements

• Abilityto lift up to 50 lbs.
• Abilityto stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods.
• Abilityto work in outdoor plant environments, including high heat and weatherconditions.

Preferred Skills

• Familiaritywith QC/QA testing equipment and procedures.
• Strongunderstanding of FDOT Asphalt Specifications (Section 320, 334, etc.).
• Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills.
• Abilityto read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Experienceinteracting with FDOT Resident Engineers, CEI staff, and contractors onactive projects.
