Job description

The Asphalt Paving Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to lay, spread, and compact asphalt during road construction and maintenance projects. This role requires precision, safety awareness, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Operators must maintain equipment, ensure work meets quality standards, and adhere to all safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Operation:
   • Operate paving machines, rollers, motor graders, and other heavy equipment used in asphalt paving.
   • Adjust machine settings to ensure proper application, thickness, and smoothness of asphalt.
   • Safely load and unload equipment at job sites.
2. Project Execution:
   • Assist with preparing surfaces by grading, leveling, or cleaning as needed.
   • Monitor equipment to ensure proper functionality and prevent delays.
   • Perform tasks such as spreading and smoothing asphalt using hand tools if required.
3. Maintenance:
   • Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance on equipment (e.g., cleaning, greasing, checking fluids).
   • Report any mechanical issues to supervisors or maintenance staff.
4. Safety Protocols:
   • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.
   • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on job sites.
   • Stay aware of surroundings, including other workers and traffic.
5. Team Collaboration:
   • Communicate effectively with the paving crew, foreman, and project managers.
   • Assist other team members during downtime or as needed to maintain workflow.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience operating paving equipment (e.g., asphalt paver, roller, or skid steer) is required.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving processes and techniques.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
