Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction, Inc has an immediate opening for an experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman.
Job Summary:
The Paving Crew Foreman is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of a paving crew on road construction, resurfacing, or other paving projects. This role involves overseeing the crew, ensuring the work is performed safely and efficiently, and maintaining quality standards throughout the project. The foreman ensures that the job site runs smoothly, coordinating tasks, managing resources, and making sure the project is completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Crew Supervision and Leadership:
- Lead and supervise a team of skilled laborers, equipment operators, and other paving crew members
- Assign daily tasks and ensure crew members understand their responsibilities and work safely
- Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them improve their skills and ensuring they work efficiently
- Motivate the team and foster a positive and productive work environment
- Project Coordination and Planning:
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other personnel to ensure the project’s goals, timelines, and quality standards are met
- Review plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure proper execution of paving tasks
- Adjust work assignments as needed to meet changing conditions, weather, or project requirements
- Quality Control and Assurance:
- Oversee the entire paving process, ensuring that the surface is paved to the required specifications and quality standards
- Check and monitor the thickness, smoothness, and compaction of the paving materials to ensure the job meets specifications
- Identify and address any issues with the paving process, such as material inconsistencies or equipment malfunctions, and take corrective actions
- Safety Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols on the job site to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies
- Conduct daily safety briefings and site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure that safety equipment is being worn (e.g., hard hats, vests, gloves)
- Respond to any accidents or injuries, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up
- Equipment and Material Management:
- Ensure that all paving equipment, such as pavers, rollers, trucks, and other machinery, is properly maintained and functioning
- Oversee the delivery, handling, and storage of materials (e.g., asphalt, concrete) to ensure they are used efficiently with minimal waste
- Coordinate with suppliers and equipment operators to ensure the timely availability of materials and equipment
- Communication and Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the crew and upper management, ensuring effective communication
- Provide progress updates to the project manager, including any delays, issues, or changes in the scope of work
- Complete daily logs, report material usage, and document any issues or accidents on the job site
- Training and Development:
- Train and mentor new and less experienced workers on proper paving techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use
- Promote skill development and encourage team members to improve their abilities in paving and construction operations
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Address any on-site challenges, whether related to materials, equipment, or crew performance, and make necessary adjustments
- Resolve conflicts or disagreements among crew members to maintain a positive and productive work environment
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in the paving industry, with a solid understanding of paving operations and equipment
- Previous experience as a foreman or in a supervisory role is preferred
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a diverse crew and work collaboratively with other stakeholders
- In-depth knowledge of paving processes, asphalt materials, and construction equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and project specifications
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with the ability to think quickly on your feet to address issues as they arise
- Certifications and Training:
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification required (OSHA 30 preferred)
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus
- Other relevant construction certifications may be required or preferred
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions
- Comfortable working in an active construction environment with exposure to noise, dust, and outdoor elements
- Work Environment:
- The position is based outdoors on construction sites, where the foreman will be exposed to varying weather conditions
- The role may require long working hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and potential weekend shifts to meet project deadlines
- The work environment can be noisy, and safety gear must be worn at all times
Requirements:
- Ability to work nights, weekends and travel out of town if required;
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license;
- Must pass drug test and background check;
- Self motivated and punctual;
- High School diploma or GED;
- Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills and attributes;
- The ability to operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner
