Job summary

Mountain Companies in Kentucky seeks an Asphalt Paver Operator for Hazard, KY. This role reports to the Paving Foreman and may require a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement depending on location. You will operate paving equipment and ensure quality and safety on each project.

Responsibilities include controlling material flow and depths, following project specs, and performing minor maintenance while adhering to OSHA and company safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required, with two years of asphalt/road construction experience.
• Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
• Pass a pre-employment 'Fit for Work' physical.
• Be able to provide valid I-9 documentation.

• Thorough understanding of paving processes including grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, and compaction.

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures (OSHA/MSHA).
• Wear PPE in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This is a highly skilled position involving the control and operation of the asphalt paving machine .

This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman. Based on geographical location this position may require a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently
• Control material taken into the paver and the depths of material distributed through the machine
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
• The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor;

• Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site;

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
• Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently;
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Perform any other general duties as specified.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and two years related asphalt and road construction experience;
• Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment;
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
• Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical;
• Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
• Report to work at the designated start time;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel;
• Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
• Be able to work overtime when required;
• Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements;
• Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
• Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
• Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
• Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and /
