Responsibilities

  • Greet patrons in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Assist customers with ticket purchases, exchanges, memberships, donations, and general inquiries in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Provide accurate information regarding performances, events, seating, pricing, memberships, giving opportunities, and venue policies.
  • Resolve patron concerns and ticketing issues with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for Uptown and its programming.
  • Process ticket sales, exchanges, and authorized refunds through AudienceView.
  • Assist patrons with selecting performances and seating based on availability and patron needs.
  • Process membership purchases and renewals and ensure accurate entry into the patron database.
  • Process donations and other contributed revenue transactions received through the Box Office.
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions and patron information.
  • Handle cash, credit card, and other payment transactions according to organizational procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling patron and donor information.
  • Maintain patron records and assist with database updates and data integrity.
  • Support membership and donor programs by assisting with purchases, renewals, donations, and inquiries.
  • Assist with event preparation, including printing tickets, preparing will-call lists, and generating patron reports.
  • Support the Box Office Manager with other administrative and patron-service responsibilities as needed.
  • Assist with will-call operations before performances and events.
  • Collaborate with House Managers and other Front of House staff to ensure a smooth patron experience.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional Box Office environment.
  • Provide Box Office support during special events, fundraisers, community programs, and other Uptown activities as assigned.

Box Office Associate

Department: Box Office Reports To: Box Office Manager Status: Part-Time, Hourly Compensation: $18/hour

Position Summary

The Box Office Associate serves as a primary point of contact for Uptown patrons, providing exceptional customer service while facilitating ticket sales, memberships, donations, and event information. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming and positive experience for all guests while ensuring accurate transaction processing and efficient Box Office operations.

Box Office Associates work both regular Box Office hours and performance-based shifts, including evenings, weekends, and select holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
  • Greet patrons in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Assist customers with ticket purchases, exchanges, memberships, donations, and general inquiries in person, by phone, and via email.

Typical Box Office Hours & Scheduling

Regular Box Office hours are generally:

  • Thursdays and Fridays beginning at 2:00 PM through intermission of the evening's performance.
  • When there is no performance, regular Thursday and Friday Box Office hours generally conclude at 5:30 PM.
  • For performances outside of regular Box Office hours, the Box Office generally opens two hours prior to each performance and remains open through intermission.
  • During the holiday season and other periods of increased activity, Box Office hours may be expanded to include Wednesdays.
  • Additional or adjusted hours may occasionally be required for special events, holidays, high-volume performances, or organizational needs.

Because Uptown is a performing arts organization, candidates should be comfortable with a schedule that regularly includes evenings and weekends.

Compensation & Availability

Compensation is $18 per hour. This is a part-time position with hours driven primarily by regular Box Office operations and Uptown's performance schedule. Flexible evening and weekend availability is required.
