Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience using American Sign Language.
• Ability to work within a team environment.
• Ability to follow directions and to follow through efficiently and independently on assigned tasks.
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
• Evidence of emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural, developmental, religious and ethnic diversity of students and community.
• Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of certified teacher(s), prepare for small-group and individual instruction.
• Interprets/translates classroom instruction.
• Assists the classroom instructor in meeting needs of the hard of hearing student(s) and will communicate instructions and other information from the instructor to the deaf student(s).
• Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certificated teacher.
• Maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers, staff and the public.
• Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Education

Two years of college and/or A.A. required and/or completion of the ETS test
