Job description

The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Operate a residential/recycling collection truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect waste on designated routes.
  2. Load waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle.
  3. Operate equipment to compact trash.
  4. Perform safety inspections and complete necessary reports daily.
  5. Report mechanical problems immediately.
  6. Maintain route quality standards and safety compliance.
  7. Keep the vehicle clean and identify prohibited waste items.
  8. Manage helpers if applicable.
  9. Follow all safety and legal regulations, including wearing PPE at all times.
  10. Report accidents or incidents promptly.
  11. Maintain professional demeanor and appearance.
  12. Keep accurate service records.
  13. Manage inventory of containers and parts, and recommend purchases as needed.
  14. Work with supervisors to improve routing efficiency.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License required.
  • At least one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
  • Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria.
  • Ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of truck components and maintenance.
  • Ability to maneuver the truck in tight spaces.
  • Recognition of unacceptable waste.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Coordination of limbs for operation.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform physical tasks.
  • Visual requirements for driving and maneuvering.
  • Lift/move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to loud noise, weather, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work outdoors up to 100% of the time.
  • Work route away from the branch location.
  • Occasional work in high places and traffic conditions.
