Job summary

The American Sign Language (ASL) Coordinator at Harvard University's Department of Linguistics supports accessibility and interpretation services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, faculty, and staff. You will coordinate and provide ASL interpreting, recruit interpreters, and manage scheduling for courses, meetings, and events.

You will work with faculty and leadership to advance the ASL Program, handle invoices, maintain records, and contribute to program planning, enrollment management,

Qualifications

  • Three years’ experience as an ASL interpreter.
  • Experience in higher education, academic, or research environments as an ASL interpreter.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and coordinating complex schedules.
  • Familiarity with interpreter scheduling and accessibility accommodation practices.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide signed language interpretation for deaf and/or hard-of-hearing faculty, staff, and students in classrooms, meetings, and events.
  • Deliver ad hoc interpreting services and assess coverage needs.
  • Coordinate and schedule additional ASL interpreters for courses, meetings, and events.
  • Facilitate communication between requestors, participants, and interpreters.
  • Oversee interpreter preparation by distributing course materials in advance.
  • Educate faculty and staff on interpreter roles and accessibility practices.
  • Recruit, maintain, and coordinate a pool of qualified ASL interpreters.
  • Manage interpreter scheduling, invoices, and budgeting data.
  • Support course planning, enrollment management, and placement activities.
