Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time American Sign Language (ASL) Coordinator within the Department of Linguistics to support accessibility and instructional needs of the ASL Program.

Situated within the Department of Linguistics, the American SignLanguage (ASL) Program is a small but vibrant academic program thatencompasses language instruction, research, educationalprogramming, and community engagement activities. The program supports a diverse community of deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearingstudents, faculty, and staff and is committed to advancingexcellence in ASL education and accessibility.
The Department of Linguistics seeks a full-time American SignLanguage (ASL) Coordinator to support the accessibility,instructional, and programmatic needs of the ASL Program. Reportingto departmental leadership, the ASL Coordinator serves as theprimary resource for coordinating and providing interpretingservices for deaf and/or hard-of-hearing faculty, staff, andstudents.
This position is responsible for assessing interpreting needsacross a range of academic, administrative, and programmaticactivities; providing direct interpretation services whenappropriate; and coordinating external interpreting resources forspecialized or simultaneous assignments. The Coordinator will workclosely with faculty, students, staff, and contracted interpretersto ensure effective communication access across thedepartment.
In addition to accessibility coordination, the ASL Coordinator willcontribute to the administration and ongoing success of the ASLProgram through support of course planning, enrollment management,placement activities, and other program initiatives.
Three years’ experience as an ASL interpreter.
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders thatsome of the duties and responsibilities can be effectivelyperformed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and locationwill be set by the department at its discretion and based uponoperational needs. When not working at a Harvard orHarvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions mustwork in a Harvard registered state in compliance with theUniversity’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location.Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements priorto employment.
