Job summary

DataForce by TransPerfect is seeking American Sign Language (ASL) and Black American Sign Language (BASL) signers for a paid remote research project in the United States. You will contribute from home, recording ASL/BASL videos to help improve technology accessibility.

The project involves recording about 1,000 short videos, each around 10 seconds, totaling roughly 10 hours of participation. Compensation is $700 USD upon successful completion according to study guidelines.

Qualifications

• Be 18 years or older.
• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Black American Sign Language (BASL).
• Reside in the United States, excluding Texas, Illinois, and Washington.
• Able to understand written English instructions.
• Comfortable recording yourself on video.
• Have a suitable home recording environment.
• Have access to a compatible Apple device (iPhone 12+, iPad 9th Gen+, MacBook with M1+, iMac with M1+).

Responsibilities

• Record approximately 1,000 short ASL/BASL videos from home.
• Capture phrases, numbers, fingerspelling sequences, and prompts.
• Each video ~10 seconds; total ~10 hours of work.
• Complete the project remotely from home using an Apple device.

About the Project

DataForce by TransPerfect is looking for American Sign Language (ASL) and Black American Sign Language (BASL) signers across the United States to participate in a paid remote research project.

The goal of this project is to help make technology more accessible for everyone and promote greater inclusion of Deaf and signing communities in the development of future technologies.

What You'll Do

Participants will record approximately 1,000 short ASL/BASL videos from home, including phrases, numbers, fingerspelling sequences, and conversational prompts.

Each recording is approximately 10 seconds long. Completing the full set is expected to take approximately 10 hours in total.

The project can be completed remotely from home using a compatible Apple device.

Compensation

$700 USD for completing the project according to the study guidelines.

This is a project-based opportunity and not a full-time employment position.

Who Can Participate

To participate, you must:

• Be 18 years of age or older

• Be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Black American Sign Language (BASL)

• Currently reside in the United States, excluding Texas, Illinois, and Washington

• Be able to understand written English instructions

• Be comfortable recording yourself on video

• Have a suitable environment at home for recording
