Job Summary

AMSTI is the Alabama State Department of Education’s ( ALSDE ) initiative to improve

STEM education inAlabama so that all students develop the skills necessary for

success in post-secondary studies and the workforce. Established in 1994, ASIM now

serves as the secondary science component of AMSTI .

The ASIM /Secondary Science Specialist position is responsible for supporting schools by providing professional learning, instructional materials, and educator support (through coaching) needed to

implement the current Alabama Course of Study Standards: Science in grades 6-12

(including but not limited to biology, chemistry, and/or physics).

Regional assignments (schools/districts and grade levels/content areas) will be based on regional needs and are subject to change based on regional data.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Valid Alabama Teachers’ Certification in Secondary Science (general science preferred)
• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (preferred science or science education)
• Five years of teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school
• Knowledge of and experience with AMSTI or ASIM program
• Teacher leader or instructional coaching experience

Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties?
