Job Description Summary

The Asheville Deburr Operator will perform a variety of hand contouring tasks, including manually removing burrs created after the machining process on complex aviation engine hardware. The position requires generating break edges, round edges, and chamfers on exotic metals such as titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, and Rene, using hand tools such as pencil grinders, 90‑degree grinders, straight grinders, and operating a drill press. The role also includes hand polishing parts to required surface finish and inspecting features for conformance.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

• Read, understand, and follow process operation sheets, tooling sheets, and tech plans.
• Contour edges to achieve tight tolerance dimensions using hand tools, grinders, and polishing equipment, working to production planning and visual standards.
• Contour all materials used within GE Aviation Asheville machine shops and check dimensions with contour readers and other measuring devices.
• Perform delicate polishing operations, blend radii, deburr slots, holes, or other features generated by complex machining processes.
• Obtain and maintain CVP certification within six months and annually.
• Record time accurately and maintain records electronically and manually.
• Serialize parts accurately for traceability.
• Keep facilities, material, and work area orderly, maintaining good housekeeping practices.
• Sit and stand in restrictive positions for long periods, stoop, bend, move wrists, arms, and shoulders continuously while generating edges.
• Work in normal machine shop conditions, exposing to dirt, dust, noise, and metal particles; wear designated PPE.
• Use cranes and material handling equipment where possible; may be required to lift or carry objects up to 50lbs.
• Participate in daily team meetings and activities, cooperate with teammates, and share open communication.

Basic Qualifications / Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• One year experience working from detailed instructions and planning.
• One year experience reading simple blueprints and performing basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction of decimals and fractions).
• One year experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality, and integrity of work performed.
• Ability to work overtime (OT).
• Experience with finesse hand work such as auto body work, carpentry, metal polishing, deburring, etc.

Desired Qualifications

• 1‑year machining certificate or 2 years machining experience (e.g., turning, milling, grinding).
• Flexibility to work all shifts on a temporary basis to meet business needs.
• Ability and willingness to balance multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated computer application skills (Outlook email, shop floor applications).
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
• Participation in improvement events / activities.
