TITLE: ASE Technician

REPORTING TO: Service Manager EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary
The Flat Rate Technician (Tech) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. The Tech must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The Tech is responsible for effective diagnosis of automotive systems, repair and replacement of automotive parts, fluids, tires, and accessories and ensuring these services are done right the first time. The Tech is expected to comply with company safety, loss prevention, and customer service programs as well as established policies and procedures and municipal, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workplace safety by following all safety policies, completing safety training, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Provide diagnosis, repair, and maintenance services for automotive systems, including all systems covered by ASE certifications.
  • Complete all required documentation, including Service Work Orders and MPI forms, and support customer engagement processes.
  • Obtain and return parts appropriately, handle cores, batteries, and tires according to procedures.
  • Maintain productivity standards, with a minimum of 50% productivity measured as billed hours over worked hours.
  • Complete all required training and certifications, including becoming a Licensed State Vehicle Inspector and ASE certified in specific areas.
  • Support and deliver the 5-for-5 process to educate customers about their vehicle’s condition.
  • Participate in regular meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards in all repair and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including shop equipment and facilities.
  • Enforce compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational regulations.

Performance Measurement

  • Maintain a minimum of 50% productivity (billed hours/ worked hours).
  • Ensure minimal rework by completing quality work the first time.

Work Schedule

  • Typically, a 5-day workweek, 40 hours per week.
  • Be punctual and work all scheduled hours.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of automotive service experience.
  • Technical schooling or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • ASE Certification (G1, A4, A5 recommended; four of the A-Series certifications required for ASE Technician).
  • State Inspection License.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed indoors in a shop environment with exposure to weather, chemicals, noise, and physical activity including lifting and standing. Protective gear must be worn as required.
