TITLE: ASE Technician

REPORTING TO: Service Manager EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary

The Flat Rate Technician (Tech) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. The Tech must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The Tech is responsible for effective diagnosis of automotive systems, repair and replacement of automotive parts, fluids, tires, and accessories and ensuring these services are done right the first time. The Tech is expected to comply with company safety, loss prevention, and customer service programs as well as established policies and procedures and municipal, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workplace safety by following all safety policies, completing safety training, locking out unsafe equipment, and reporting hazards.
  • Provide diagnosis, repair, and maintenance for automotive systems, including those covered by ASE certifications such as Engine Repair, Transmission, Suspension, Brakes, Electrical, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.
  • Ensure a valid Service Work Order is initiated and displayed during service.
  • Complete MPI and participate in the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
  • Accurately complete and return all service documentation and manage parts and cores responsibly.
  • Maintain a minimum productivity rate based on position: Technician 80%, ASE Technician 90%, Master Technician 100%.
  • Complete required training, certifications, and support the 5-for-5 process to educate customers.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Perform quality, safety, and housekeeping responsibilities, including road testing vehicles, maintaining a clean work area, and complying with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Support facility and equipment maintenance and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Enforce service code of ethics and regulatory compliance.

Performance Measurement

  • Maintain minimum 50% productivity (Billed Hours / Worked Hours).
  • Ensure minimal rework by performing quality work the first time.

Standard Management Work Week

  • Work 5 days per week, 40 hours.
  • Arrive on time, be prepared, and work scheduled hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills to explain vehicle issues to customers and coworkers.
  • Diagnose automotive problems and recommend solutions.
  • Minimum of one year experience in automotive service or related education.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • ASE Certifications G1, A4, A5 recommended; four A-Series certifications required for ASE Technician; all eight for Master Technician.

Work Environment

Indoor service department with exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Protective eyewear required.

Physical Demands

Includes sitting, reaching, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting, and exerting force, with specific time and weight requirements. Protective belts recommended for strenuous activities.
