Title: Flat Rate Technician
Reporting to: Service Manager
Employment Classification: Non-exempt / hourly
General Summary

The Flat Rate Technician (Tech) lives VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by learning and living the VIP culture and following VIP processes to ensure that customers get a different & better experience. The Tech must work effectively and safely to ensure good communication, teamwork, and operation in serving customers. The Tech is responsible for effective diagnosis of automotive systems, repair and replacement of automotive parts, fluids, tires, and accessories and ensuring these services are done right the first time. The Tech is expected to comply with company safety, loss prevention, and customer service programs as well as established policies and procedures and municipal, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prioritize workplace safety by following all safety policies, completing safety training, locking out unsafe equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Provide diagnosis, repair, and maintenance services for automotive systems, including all systems covered by ASE certifications.
  • Ensure a valid Service Work Order is initiated before service and is visibly displayed with the vehicle during service.
  • Complete all required training and certifications, including becoming a Licensed State Vehicle Inspector, T.I.A. BATS and TPMS certified, and ASE certified based on the position.
  • Support and support the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
  • Participate in shop maintenance, safety, and cleanliness standards.
  • Perform road tests post-service to ensure safety and satisfaction.
  • Maintain technical capabilities and ASE certification status.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
Performance Measurement
  • Maintain minimum 50% productivity rate.
  • Ensure minimal rework or callbacks.
Work Environment

Work is performed indoors in a service department with exposure to weather, chemicals, noise, and mechanical equipment. Protective eyewear is mandatory.

Physical Demands

Includes sitting, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 21 lbs or more, and vision requirements.

Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of automotive service experience or equivalent education.
  • Valid driver’s license and ASE certifications (G1, A4, A5, and state inspection license recommended).
Work Schedule
  • Typically 5 days/week, 40 hours.
