Job summary

Apple in Seattle is seeking a highly skilled engineer to join the ASE Observability team. You will design, build, and operate core observability platforms that help engineers monitor, debug, and optimize infrastructure at scale, with capabilities like distributed tracing, logging, and continuous profiling.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting highly scalable infrastructure services.
  • 5 to 15 years of industry experience in building and maintaining backend distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, and concurrent programming.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Passion for developing and testing clear, robust code.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and frameworks.

The ASE Observability team is responsible for designing, building, and operating the core observability platforms that enable engineering organizations at Apple to monitor, debug, and optimize infrastructure and systems at scale. We develop platform solutions that provide comprehensive visibility into application performance, system health, and operational metrics across the entire technology stack.We are on a journey to continue building our next-generation observability platform with new capabilities like Distributed Tracing, Logging and Continuous profiling.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience and insight into designing, implementing and supporting highly scalable infrastructure services.
  • 5 to 15 years of industry experience in building and maintaining backend distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, and concurrent programming.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical capabilities.
  • Passion for developing and testing clear, robust code.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Having built Observability platforms at scale previously is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and OSS tools in the Observability space.
  • Proficiency in one of Java, Rust is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes on Linux is a plus.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,000 and $263,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.
