Job summary

Ravenna Public Schools is seeking a passionate, dedicated elementary special education teacher for a Long Term Substitute position focused on Intensive Resource Room with ASD emphasis. The role requires a valid Michigan teaching certificate and an ASD endorsement is preferred.

You will deliver individualized ASD instruction, implement behavioral supports, and collaborate with families and a multidisciplinary team to ensure progress toward IEP goals in a highly structured setting.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement (Autism endorsement strongly preferred).
• Experience with elementary students on the Autism Spectrum (ASD) and with complex behavioral/emotional needs.
• Strong knowledge of ASD teaching strategies, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices.
• Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver ASD-focused instruction tailored to students with ASD, aligned with IEP goals and the general education curriculum.
• Implement evidence-based instructional strategies, sensory protocols, visual schedules, and positive behavior interventions for ASD and emotional/behavioral needs.
• Develop, write, and implement IEPs in collaboration with families, therapists, and the IEP team.
• Collect and analyze data to inform ASD-focused instruction and progress monitoring.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologist, paraprofessionals, and support staff.
• Maintain a safe, structured, positive classroom environment using proactive behavior management techniques.
• Engage families regularly to support student growth and consistency across environments.
