Job summary

Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, NE seeks a Medical Lab Scientist to join our team at West Hospital. The role involves performing and reporting tests across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular (PCR), serology, coagulation, and blood bank areas.

You will follow quality control procedures, calibrate and maintain instruments, and communicate results to providers, while collaborating with clinicians to interpret data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, biological sciences from an accredited college or university.
• Completion of one year of full-time laboratory experience or training in the specialty or sub-specialty in which the individual performs tests required.
• Registered by the ASCP or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Records, prepares, performs, evaluates, and reports patient tests, including chemistry, microscopic, microbiology, molecular (PCR), hematology, serology, coagulation and blood bank tests; communicates results and interpretation.
• Demonstrates advanced technical skill in blood collection and acts as a resource to clinic and hospital personnel; evaluates specimen integrity and correlates tests results to the clinical picture.
• Communicates test results to all clinical personnel involved in patient care; collaborates with clinicians to correlate information with testing results.
• Operates, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots lab instruments and equipment; refers serious problems to supervisor.
• Participates in statistical analysis or data collection; validates normal ranges and performs analysis; provides training and orientation for new staff.
• Investigates and develops new test procedures; may develop or update departmental procedures.
• Provides patient care and education according to patient population served.
