Job summary

ALOIS Solutions seeks an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin to support its IBM i / iSeries environment. The consultant will focus on legacy application development, database management, and modernization support, with the external provider handling OS/hardware layers.

Responsibilities include maintaining RPG, RPG IV, RPGLE, CL programs, and DB2 for i; coordinating with Ensono for hosting; and driving migrations to modern cloud platforms where applicable.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on AS400 / IBM i / iSeries development and support.
• Strong RPG IV / ILE RPG expertise.
• Proficiency in RPGLE, CL, and SQL / DB2 for i.
• Experience with IBM i work management and subsystems.
• Experience with hosted/managed AS400 environments and Ensono.
• Familiarity with FTP/SFTP and external system integrations.

• Maintain, modify, and optimize AS400 applications.

Duration: 12-month initial contract, with high probability of extension

Hours: 20 hours/week

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin to support its core IBM AS/400 (IBM i / iSeries) environment.

The consultant will focus on legacy application development and maintenance, database management, application administration, integrations, and modernization support. The underlying AS400 hardware, operating system, and baseline infrastructure are hosted and managed by an external provider, so this is not an OS/hardware-level engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, modify, and optimize applications written in:
• RPG
• RPG III
• RPG IV / ILE RPG
• RPGLE
• CL
• Troubleshoot application bugs, batch processing issues, and user-reported problems.
• Modify existing application logic for regulatory, licensing, and business-process changes.

2. Application Administration & Infrastructure Coordination

• Coordinate with the external hosting provider on system maintenance, OS patching, database utilities, and environmental changes.
• Manage application-level security, including user profiles and object-level authority.
• Manage job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job schedulers.
• Coordinate backup, disaster recovery testing, and restoration activities with Ensono's storage/backup teams.

3. DB2 Database & Integration Management

• Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases.
• Optimize SQL queries and indexes.
• Support automated FTP/SFTP file transfers.
• Manage interfaces between the AS400 environment and state, regional, or partner systems.

4. Modernization & Migration

• Assist with extracting, cleaning, and archiving legacy data.
• Work with DBAs and cloud architects on modernization initiatives.
• Document system flows, database schemas, and application interdependencies to support migration of legacy business logic to modern cloud platforms.
