Job summary

MSR Technology Group seeks an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin (IBM i / iSeries) for a long-term contract in Oklahoma City. The role focuses on the application and database layer, with hardware managed by an external provider.

The contractor will maintain and modernize legacy RPG/CL code, run DB2 for i, and support security, backups, data integration, and cloud migration initiatives. 20 hours per week over a 12-month term with extension potential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years hands-on AS400 / IBM i / iSeries development and support experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, modify, and optimize legacy applications written in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and CL.
• Troubleshoot application issues, batch processing anomalies, and user-reported problems.
• Modify existing application logic to support regulatory, licensing, and business process changes.
• Coordinate with external hosting/infrastructure teams regarding system maintenance, database utilities, and environmental changes.
• Manage application-level security, including user profiles and object-level authority.
• Review system audit logs and support application integrity.
• Manage job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job scheduling.
• Coordinate application-related backup, disaster recovery, and restoration activities.
• Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases.
• Optimize SQL queries and indexes for database performance.
• Support secure and automated SFTP/FTP file transfers.
• Manage integrations between the IBM i environment and external systems.
• Assist with legacy database extraction, cleansing, archiving, and documentation.
• Document application flows, database schemas, dependencies, and legacy business logic.
• Support ongoing cloud migration and modernization initiatives.

Job description

Duration: 12-month initial assignment with a strong possibility of extension

Hours: 20 hours per week

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer/Admin (IBM i / iSeries) for a long-term contract opportunity supporting a critical legacy IBM i environment.

The contractor will be responsible for application development and maintenance, database management, application-level administration, troubleshooting, data integration, and modernization/migration support.

This role focuses on the application and database layer of the IBM i environment. Hardware, operating system, and baseline infrastructure are managed by an external hosting provider.

Key Responsibilities

Legacy Application Maintenance & Support

• Maintain, modify, and optimize legacy applications written in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and CL.
• Troubleshoot application issues, batch processing anomalies, and user-reported problems.
• Modify existing application logic to support regulatory, licensing, and business process changes.

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with Rational Developer for i (RDi).
• Previous experience supporting public-sector or insurance-related applications.
• Candidates should be local to Oklahoma City, OK, or willing to relocate.
• Hybrid schedule with designated onsite days.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required.
