Job summary

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a Program Officer for the Performing Arts Program. The role collaborates with staff to guide grantmaking, strategy, and foundation-wide initiatives, with travel to arts events and meetings.

You will manage about 80 grants, assess progress, and help grantees refine their approaches while coordinating with consultants and partners.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related work experience in the nonprofit sector or philanthropy.
• Nonprofit arts or philanthropic sector experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated analytical skills for evaluating grants and proposals.
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
• Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area arts scene is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of grants and assess grantee progress and financial health.
• Develop program strategies, plan projects, and coordinate with consultants and stakeholders.
• Represent the foundation at external meetings and site visits.
• Provide guidance to grantees to refine strategies and maximize impact.
• Organize meetings, draft summaries, and contribute to program-wide initiatives.
