Job summary

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University is seeking a full-time Baker (0.75 FTE) to support residential dining, catering, and retail bakery operations. The Baker designs, bakes, and improves recipes, performs quality checks on ingredients and finished goods, and enhances presentation with icing, glazes, fillings, and decorations.

Responsibilities include customer service, preparing items on order, maintaining clean workstations, and ensuring smooth bakery operation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required, additional training in baking preferred
• Minimum of 9 months of experience as a baker
• Understanding of metric and imperial measurements
• Ability to safely operate commercial bakery equipment
• Strong attention to detail and quality
• Excellent communication and team skills
• ServSafe Certification preferred; complete within one year of employment
• Ability to work flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

• Prepare and bake a variety of breads and desserts.
• Monitor ingredient ratios and maintain product quality.
• Display, serve, and store baked goods to maintain freshness and appeal.
• Monitor baking processes and oven times for desired texture and taste.
• Maintain clean, sanitary workstations and equipment.
• Address customer inquiries about bakery products as needed.
• Support timely preparation and delivery for residential, retail, and catering operations.
• Collaborate with bakers and kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflows.
