Job summary

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry, seeks a Biological Scientist I to identify arthropod specimens and curate reference collections. You will prepare specimens for research and loans and conduct morphological studies to support regulatory activities.

Occasional travel is required for pest surveys and emergency programs. Qualified candidates hold a bachelor's degree in a biological/science field, expert systematics knowledge, microscope

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciences from an accredited college.
  • Expert knowledge of current systematic practice and theory, specimen curation and preparation procedures.
  • Ability to use compound and dissecting microscopes.
  • Ability to use computer hardware and software.
  • Valid Class E driver's license.
  • Hemiptera knowledge preferred.

  • Identify arthropod specimens.

  • Prepare specimens for research and loans.
