Job summary

DEKALB PARK DISTRICT IL is seeking an Art Instructor for the Recreation department. This part-time, non-exempt role leads planning, instruction, and monitoring of art classes while ensuring a safe, engaging environment for participants.

Responsibilities include developing age-appropriate programs, preparing lesson plans, and delivering high-quality customer service. Applicants must be at least 16 with art experience; CPR/First Aid certification is expected within three months.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Previous art experience required.
• Experience teaching and/or working with children preferred.
• Formal education, training, or coursework in art, education or related field preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach art program classes, activities, and projects appropriate to age and skill level.
• Create dynamic programming for a wide range of ages and abilities.
• Prepare lesson plans, projects, demonstrations, and supply lists for assigned classes.
• Arrive early to class to ensure classes begin promptly.
• Provide a high level of customer service in a professional manner.
• Supervise participants to ensure safety, engagement, and positive participation.
• Set up and help maintain the facility, program equipment/supplies, and classroom environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program site, including activity areas and common spaces.
• Follow safety guidelines and emergency procedures.
