Job summary

U.S. Army General Surgeons lead a world-class military health care team and provide care to Soldiers, retirees, and their families. Surgeons examine, diagnose, consult, and perform surgeries while contributing to advances in medical practice and education.

Joining the Army means serving on Active Duty or in the Army Reserve, with opportunities for humanitarian missions, leadership training, and state-of-the-art equipment within a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Must have an MD or DO from an accredited U.S. medical school.
  • Foreign graduates may apply with permanent ECFMG certificate.
  • Must hold an active medical license in US, DC or Puerto Rico.
  • Must be eligible for board certification.
  • Must have completed at least one year of GME internship.
  • Must have completed a general surgery training program.
  • U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty.
  • Permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, consult and prescribe treatment for Soldiers and families.
  • Perform general surgical procedures and surgeries.
  • Engage in continuing education, trainings, seminars and conferences.
  • Collaborate with Army Medical Corps to advance patient care.

Education

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
Permanent ECFMG certificate (for foreign graduates)
Current medical license (US/DC/PR)
Board certification eligibility
1 year GME internship
General surgery training program
U.S. citizenship
Permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
