Job Summary:

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff; and to interact with people, with an emphasis on professional service and customer relations. The Armed Security Officer should have a working knowledge and understanding of the use of deadly physical force. This position works closely with staff, local law enforcement, and other government agencies.

Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors, and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Job Description:

Patrol Activity:

• Direct visitors, patients, and employees to appropriate location(s) and intervene to prevent and control disturbances.
• Protect, secure, and safeguard all persons on SEH property.

Customer Relations:

• Provide way-finding and general assistance for patients and visitors during routine security duties.
• Relate to customers, provide clear communication in a courteous, professional manner, and utilize appropriate de-escalation techniques in various situations.

Operations Center:

• Monitor activity via closed-circuit television and alarm systems.
• Handle radio and telephone communications effectively.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Complete case reports, maintenance logs, daily data entry, and other necessary documentation professionally.
• Review roll call, emails, and pertinent information daily.
• Use photographic documentation to supplement written reports when appropriate.

Training:

• Complete all mandatory department training.
• Maintain all additional firearms training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

• High School Diploma or GED required with applicable Criminal Justice experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability by the Hospital insurance carrier.

Specialized Knowledge:

• Completion of an accredited police academy firearms course, state-approved concealed carry firearms course, or related military firearms training.
• Pass a Psychological Evaluation.
• Complete weapons retention training.

Experience:

• 6 months of SEH Security Officer 1 experience OR
• Current Sworn Law Enforcement Officer OR
• Honorably discharged member of the Armed Forces.
