Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Security Officer to provide safety services for staff and visitors at UAB St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL. The role involves monitoring for threats, investigating incidents, and supporting emergency preparedness with drills and staff assistance.

The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent, a current BLS certification within 30 days of hire, and an Alabama concealed carry permit with a valid driver’s license. Prior security experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent or 1 year of relevant experience.
• BLS Certification within 30 days of hire required; AHA/Red Cross accepted.
• Alabama concealed carry permit required; valid Alabama driver’s license.
• Security professional background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide security services to ensure a safe environment for staff and visitors.
• Conduct proactive monitoring and respond to potential/actual security threats.
• Investigate, document and manage security incidents and hazards.
• Follow policies on alarms and emergency/disaster preparedness, and assist with drills.
• Assist staff and visitors to promote safety and ensure safe operations.

Job Description

Provide security services to ensure a safe environment for staff and visitors.

• Perform proactive monitoring of and timely responses to potential/actual security threats.
• Investigate, document and manage security incidents and hazards.
• Maintain knowledge/follows policies and procedures regarding alarms and emergency/disaster preparedness plans. May facilitate planned drills and simulations.
• Provide information and assistance to staff and visitors to promote safety.
• Operates in a safe and responsible manner to avoid accidents and traffic or parking violations.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• In state (Alabama) concealed carry weapons permit required.
• Drivers License credentialed from the Alabama Department of Motor Vehicles required.
• Security Professional preferred.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
