Job summary

The Scranton School District is seeking an Armed School Security Officer to provide a professional armed security presence at district schools, deter threats, respond to emergencies, and promote a safe learning environment. Reporting to the Sergeant, the ASSO conducts patrols, supports drills, and follows district and legal protocols.

This 10-month, full-time role requires carrying district-issued firearms and safety equipment, patrolling campuses, supervising movement, and maintaining FERPA

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Act 235 Lethal Weapons Certification and License to Carry Firearms.
• Completion of NASRO Basic SRO Course or equivalent within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline security presence under the Sergeant.
• Respond to threats, disturbances, or safety violations promptly.
• Patrol assigned areas and monitor entrances/exits/perimeters.
• Complete detailed incident reports in district format.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information per FERPA.
