Job summary

The State of Illinois invites qualified applicants for the Area Utilities Technician position in Schaumburg, IL. This role coordinates location, relocation and accommodation of utilities within an assigned geographic area, reviews engineering plans, and negotiates utility reimbursements for highway projects.

Minimum qualifications require two years of college in civil engineering technology or related field plus five years of engineering experience; seven years accepted in lieu of college.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or related field.
• Five or seven years of engineering experience as alternative (see minimum qualifications).
• Preferred qualifications include reviewing highways/utility plans and using GIS/CADD tools.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate review of contract plans and utility, water, and sewer relocation activities.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and specifications.
• Process permits and technical documentation in departmental databases.
• Maintain accurate location and status information in GIS/CADD files and databases.
• Monitor relocation timeframes to support timely project delivery.
• Provide guidance on utility accommodation policies and documentation.
