Job summary

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Southwest District seeks a Utility Engineer to act as a technical expert in utility coordination for transportation projects. You will manage a broad portfolio, coordinate utility relocations and railroad issues, and mentor a team of utility coordinators.

The role requires a Professional Engineer License in Indiana (or EIT/FE for lower level) with a valid driver's license and strong knowledge of federal/state utility laws, AASHTO standards, and INDOT

Qualifications

• PE license in Indiana is required or EIT/FE certification for lower level.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Extensive knowledge of federal and state utility laws, regulations, and highway/transportation project design.
• 4+ years of professional experience in civil engineering, transportation research, or related field.
• Familiarity with INDOT systems (SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, WMS) and CAD.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills with utility companies, railroads, and design engineers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical and subject matter expert in utility coordination for transportation projects.
• Manage a large portfolio of projects and coordinate utility relocations and railroad issues.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of utility coordinators.
• Balance fieldwork (approximately 25% of time) with office responsibilities.
• Liaise with multiple stakeholders including utilities, railroads, and design engineers.
