GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the Store, overseeing general operations and supervising Associates when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and maintaining cleanliness. They also execute and supervise company operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
- Understand safety as the top priority and practice safe behaviors.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor to ensure a safe shopping environment; report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, Cash Office security, and handling armored carrier pickups.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety, including accident prevention and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms.
Customer Service
- Treat all Customers, Associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize Associates through company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance per dress code; ensure all Associates adhere to it.
- Keep all areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed per standards; teach and assign tasks accordingly.
- Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process all merchandise promptly.
- Handle inbound deliveries and maintain stockroom organization.
- Assist in merchandising and back-stock management, aiming to reduce damage-related loss.
- Follow presentation guidelines and manage floor moves and signage.
Loss Prevention
- Follow Loss Prevention policies, maintain a visible presence, and engage with customers and associates to prevent loss.
- Safeguard confidential information and merchandise, maintain PVM system, and conduct package inspections.
Front End Supervision and Operations
- Ensure best practices at the front end, manage the line, and expedite customer checkout.
- Train and coach associates on cash register procedures and shortage control.
- Control break schedules, maintain equipment, and ensure proper signage and merchandise salability.
Fitting Rooms
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitting rooms, audit tags, and ensure return compliance.
Administrative Duties
- Manage cash pulls, deposits, and payroll administration as assigned.
- Follow policies for refunds, tills, and cash security.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications & Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
- Preferred prior customer service and supervisory experience.
- Familiarity with POS equipment and basic math skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements & ADA
Ability to use store equipment, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and lift over 25 lbs, with some roles requiring lifting over 20 lbs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises Retail Associates and Stockroom Leads where applicable.
