Job Summary
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) serves as the primary sales contact for all assigned warehouse distributors within their territory. The ideal candidate should reside centrally within a territory that spans multiple cities or states, preferably in NY (Upstate), CT, MA, RI, NH, or VT, as the territory covers New England. This role requires travel outside the assigned area based on business needs.
Primary Duties
- Drive sales, profitability, and awareness of Dorman Products within the assigned territory, supporting business plan achievement.
- Work with current and potential customers to increase sales, gain new distribution, and optimize inventory and deployment within existing categories.
- Maintain relationships with assigned accounts to ensure proper presentation and promotion of Dorman's products.
- Maintain regular contact with customers and represent Dorman at customer events.
- Assist with pull-through support such as sales/counterperson training, market blitzes, and changeovers as needed.
- Act as eyes and ears in the field, proactively communicating competitive risks, opportunities, and new product ideas back to corporate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High competency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-starter thriving in a remote office environment.
- Fact-based competitive selling experience and strong presentation skills.
- Ability to travel 50% or more, including weekends.
- Physical ability to lift 20 pounds.
- Work involves reaching, swiveling, carrying items, speaking, and active listening; noise level is usually moderate.
Education and Experience
- Preferred Bachelor's degree in business, automotive technology, or related field.
- At least 5 years of applicable sales experience, preferably in the Heavy Duty Industry.
- Experience with OEM Dealers, Spring Shops, WDs, Jobbers, or Technicians is a plus.
