Job summary

Pavement Coffeehouse is seeking an Area Operations Manager to lead daily operations across five locations in a collaborative, high-energy environment. You will work with store managers to develop teams, monitor service standards, and optimize scheduling, forecasting, and budget adherence.

A strong emphasis on craft, connection, and care guides decisions and daily actions. You will regularly visit locations to coach teams, resolve issues, and uphold food safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Three years of leadership experience in food service or retail management.
• Multiunit experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of cafe operations including staffing, forecasting, inventory, and labor planning.
• Ability to plan, multitask, and manage time effectively with changing priorities.
• Flexible schedule with availability on mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• BS degree preferred.
• Passion for Pavement’s values of Craft, Connection and Care.
• Knowledge and interest in specialty coffee and food service.

Job description

Pavement’s Area Operations Manager oversees the management of daily operations of five locations, acting as leader, coach, and problem-solver, working hand-in-hand with store managers to create a great work environment for our teams and optimize daily operations for our customers.

What you’ll do with us:

• Oversee daily operations and store management working with corporate and commissary teams to achieve operational success.
• Lead store management team, responsible for development, accountability, and succession of the team.
• Maintain a regular presence in stores to cultivate relationships and to monitor service, quality, and cleanliness.
• Oversee for all aspects of store staffing including scheduling, forecasting, succession planning, and time and attendance.
• Analyze business trends to ensure accurate store sales forecasts and labor targets.
• Responsible for each store’s P&L performance including sales, labor, cost of goods and controllable expenses.
• Ensure commitment to craft and quality in coffee and food offerings as well as adherence to food safety standards.
• Maintain healthy work environments in each store, working with management and HR to resolve interpersonal conflict in a timely and respectful manner.

What you bring:

• Three years of successful leadership experience in food service or retail management (coffee shop, bakery, salad chain, hotel brand, etc.) Multiunit experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, can be direct and honest while maintaining others’ self esteem. Engages others with integrity and self awareness.
• Strong understanding of cafe operations including: building and leading teams, understanding sales trends, inventory management, labor forecasting and planning.
• Ability to plan, multitask, and manage time effectively. Can adapt to changing priorities and needs while keeping long term focus.
• A flexible schedule with availability on mornings, weekends, and holidays
• Strong computer skills to include Google Workplace
• BS degree in business or related field preferred

Our Assistant Store Manager positions are dynamic roles. Below are some of the physical demands the job will make of you.

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. You will be on your feet for most of the day moving between stations and attending to the cafe
• Use of hands to reach, grip and perform specific movements. You'll use your hands to operate a register, handle knives to cut bagels, spread cream cheeses, and serve coffee & tea (among other responsibilities)
• Squat, bend, and reach for items below your waist and above your shoulders. For example, you will need to bend down into a fridge to grab product, or reach above to grab cups
• Ability to push/pull, lift/carry or move up to 50 pounds. For example, you'll handle gallons of milk, daily food orders, change trashes and carry dishes
• Climbing stairs and ladders. You may need to use a step ladder to reach something or navigate up and down stairs to access storage areas.
