Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking an experienced area operations leader responsible for all activities within the geographic area, providing strategic direction and ensuring delivery of both short- and long-term goals. A background in water resources is strongly preferred to drive specialized projects.

The role emphasizes setting expectations, mentoring staff, and maintaining a zero-tolerance safety environment while aligning with Granite's core values and code of conduct.

Qualifications

• BS degree preferred but not required.
• Minimum of eight+ years related experience.
• Knowledge of construction operations (tech, equipment, methods).
• Knowledge of craft employee relations and union/open shop.
• Understanding of water resources.
• Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and implementation of strategic plan for the area and business unit.
• Prepare and communicate accurate and timely financial forecasts, budgets, and projections.
• Model and champion Granite values and code of conduct in daily leadership.
• Ensure Safety programs are implemented with zero tolerance for non-compliance.
• Develop and mentor area employees, provide training and leadership development.
• Participate in Employee Development initiatives and grow bench strength.
• Performance-manage employees to build high-performance teams.
• Promote change and pursuit of excellence in the area.
• Lead industry in technology and process improvements.
• Collaborate with regional leadership to develop best practices.
• Oversee bid reviews for large or complex bids to ensure accuracy and risk assessment.
• Oversee water well drilling business and ensure alignment with financial expectations.
• Build professional relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• In union environments, collaborate on labor relations; in merit shop, coordinate with benefits teams.
• Ensure equipment standards and regular inspections are observed.
