Job Summary

The Area Manager will be accountable for operational performance, including but not limited to, freight/fleet, labor management, service level, working capital and operating expenses. Supervise operations and management team for specified customer or territory, to ensure financial and operational objectives are achieved, policies and procedures are followed and enforced and overall fleet and freight programs standards are met. Travel up to 60%.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coaches managers in the areas of employee retention, customer satisfaction and service, safety awareness and worker' compensation management.
  • Confers with customers or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or requests for service or equipment.
  • Oversees the monitoring of personnel and driver utilization to coordinate service and schedules while maintaining DOT compliance.
  • Oversees all communication within specifically assigned customer base. Build a rapport with customer contacts through meetings, entertainment, and personal interactions.
  • Identifies and addresses any management performance issues through the use of coaching and discipline, including termination, as appropriate.
  • Oversees the scheduling of equipment maintenance.
  • Maintains KPI's and present both internally to Hogan and externally to customer.
  • Records and maintains files or records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, driver discipline, and other dispatch information.
  • Ensures dispatch sheets and employee payroll are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assists with conversion of new acquisition in the specified regions if needed.
  • Develops and maintain safe working environment for branches within region.
  • Works with managers to identify training needs for associates and provide training resources to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Works with Regional VP of Operations to maximize financial performance through optimization and efficiencies.
  • Trains management on company policies, procedures and operations.
  • Visits assigned locations to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Develops strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years in the transportation industry & ability to travel up to 60%
  • Experience with developing talent in managers
  • Experience managing to a P&L
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
