Job summary

Owens-Illinois, Inc. is seeking an Area Environmental Specialist to drive environmental excellence across our manufacturing facilities. You will partner with plant leadership to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and support continuous improvement, making a measurable impact.

This role will coordinate with operations, perform audits, and lead environmental initiatives with approximately 50% travel. O-I offers a competitive salary and benefits in a safety- and sustainability-focused culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, EHS, or a related field - REQUIRED
  • 5+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits and compliance assessments.
  • Working knowledge of the Clean Air Act, Title V permitting, and related environmental programs.
  • Proven ability to lead environmental initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence, coach, and collaborate with teams at all plant level.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with plant leaders to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and company standards.
  • Provide technical support for air, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, and sustainability programs.
  • Conduct environmental audits, assessments, and compliance reviews across multiple facilities.
  • Identify compliance risks, develop corrective actions, and help drive environmental improvement plans.
  • Support regulatory inspections, environmental reporting, and agency interactions.
  • Track environmental performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.
  • Coach and train facility leadership on environmental best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Share best practices and help strengthen environmental management systems across the organization.

Job Description

The Area Environmental Specialist will help drive environmental excellence across multiple manufacturing facilities. In this highly visible role, you'll partner with plant leadership teams to ensure environmental compliance, reduce risk, advance sustainability initiatives, and support continuous improvement efforts. What we offer at O-I:
Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between$120,000 - $140,000 and includes a possible10% short-term incentive bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law
